Continuing the collaboration between practical healthcare and the academic environment, a master class “Applying service design in the development of nursing services in Kazakhstan” was held at the Astana Medical University. The master class was organized by the Karaganda Medical University and the Jamk University of Applied Sciences (Finland), with the participation of international experts from the University Medical Center Utrecht (Netherlands), the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (Lithuania), ÅboAkademi University (Finland) as well as Kazakhstani experts from the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine and the Corporate Fund “University Medical Center”.
The master class was part of the Erasmus + Capacity Building of Higher Education AccelEd project (“AcceleratingMasterandPhDLevelNursingEducationDevelopmentintheHigherEducationSysteminKazakhstan”).
Within the framework of the master class, the results of six (6) service design projects implemented in medical universities in Kazakhstan in cooperation with practical healthcare were shared. Karaganda Medical University, together with the Clinic of Professional Health of the Institute of Public Health and Professional Health, worked to improve patient satisfaction before and during hospitalization. The goal of the developers of the Nazarbayev University School of Medicine, together with the Corporate Fund “University Medical Center”, was to improve the preoperative experience of adolescent patients in the hospital. Astana Medical University presented two projects: Improving the quality of rehabilitation of patients with atopic dermatitis and Satisfaction of patients with chronic diseases with the quality of nursing care at the PHC stage. Satisfaction of parents with nursing services at admission and the postoperative period was studied by the team of the Kazakh National Medical University named after. S.D. Asfendiyarov together with Aksai Children’s University Clinic. In addition Semey Medical University, outside the consortium of the project, took part and presented their service design project, which studied the possibility of nurses consulting using telemedicine. In total, 53 people took part in the master class, among them teachers (22) of medical universities and colleges, students (21), as well as representatives of practical healthcare (10)
The development of joint projects between medical universities and practical healthcare gave impetus to further close cooperation between theory and practice, which is an important step in the development of nursing in Kazakhstan. It is important to mention that this cooperation needs the support of the top management of both MU and practical healthcare.
Having evaluated the improved service, universities will present completed projects on service design on November 4 at the seminar “Service design and its application for nursing development” at the Karaganda Medical University. If you want to take part, please contact kuanysh@qmu.kz.
